Build characters and outfits in Avatar mode

Create AI characters with precise art direction, in any style. A portrait sets the identity, outfits are built separately, then combined.

In this tutorial, we’ll learn how to create any type of character in Hylope, and go through the different submodes of Avatar mode in the Create app.

We’ll see how to separate the identity from the outfit, so you can combine them freely and keep the same character wearing whatever clothes the visual calls for.

Portrait: define the identity

The Portrait submode lets you define your character’s identity: the face, ethnicity, hairstyle, and so on.

Hylope comes with a dedicated avatar builder where you can pick a preset for each attribute, then generate the face with several AI image models in one click.

Outfit: flat lay visuals

The Outfit submode is very versatile. It generates a complete outfit, with every clothing piece laid out as a flat lay, ready to use on other characters. There are three ways to get one.

A flat lay of a grey cropped jacket, wide grey trousers, a dark tank top, a neon yellow bag, sunglasses and grey sneakers — An outfit snippet, with the accent colours written in the prompt.

From a prompt
Describe the outfit in a simple prompt. Add a @colors snippet if you want to control the palette.
From image references
For complete control, use image references. Select several pieces from your gallery, like a jacket, trousers and a shirt, and drag them in together to get one outfit.
Extracted from a photo
Drop in any image of a character. The outfit is extracted automatically and turned into a flat lay, without the person who was wearing it.

Avatar Composer: combine them

This is the most powerful part of Avatar mode. You create a character by combining an identity and an outfit, and each one can come from a real image reference, a generated asset, a snippet, or your own prompt.

Load the identity
Drag a portrait into the Character slot.
Load the outfit
Drag a flat lay into the Outfit slot.
Pick a style and a background
Select a visual style and a background directly, to present your character in a clean, professional way.
Direct the rest
Add pose, framing and lighting as snippets, or write them in your own prompt.

Character sheets: every angle in one image

Finally, we’ll create contact sheet variations. They automatically give you a character sheet showing your character from several angles, ready to use as a reference in image and video generations.

Production sheets: one page for the whole character

A production sheet is different. Turn on Production Sheet in the settings, then give your character a name and a few personality traits in the avatar builder. Instead of separate shots, you get a single designed page: a front, side and back turnaround, expressions, close-ups of the details, the colour palette and every accessory.

It’s the kind of document you share with a client or a team to present a character, and a complete reference to keep for the whole project.

Wrapping up

In this tutorial, we built a character step by step: the identity in Portrait, the outfits on their own in Outfit, both combined in Avatar Composer, then a contact sheet and a production sheet to keep it consistent.

Since each part stays separate, you can art direct every detail, change one element without losing the others, and reuse the same character in new images.
