Video Edit

Change a video you already have. Edit it from a prompt, extend it before or after, or expand it to a new aspect ratio.

The Video Edit tab (V.Edit on a phone) works on a clip you already have. Load it in the Input Video slot, then choose what to do with it under Input Mode.

Edit Video (Beta)Transform an existing video using prompt-directed edits.
Extend Video (Beta)Continue an existing video with prompt-guided next actions.
ExpandExpand an existing video to a new aspect ratio, generating the missing edges.

To make a new clip from a prompt or from images, use Video. Results carry a Video Edit badge in the Gallery.

Edit a clip

  1. Load the clip

Drop a video in Input Video, or right-click a video in the Gallery and send it to Video Edit. The lightbox offers the same action under Send to.

  2. Pick an input mode and a model

Video Edit opens on Edit Video with Gemini’s Omni 1.1 Flash. The model picker only lists the models that support the input mode you picked.

  3. Describe the change and generate

Write what should change in the prompt bar, then click Generate. For Expand, set the target ratio in the prompt bar or with Target Ratio in the settings panel.

Source clip length

Each model has its own limits on the length of the input video. Many need at least 2 or 3 seconds, and some set a maximum: Ray 3.2 edits clips up to 18 seconds, and LTX 2.3 Pro expands clips up to 60 seconds. When a clip does not fit, the input card says why and Generate stays unavailable. Trim the clip in Quick Edit or pick another model.

A few models trim a long clip themselves: Grok Imagine Video edits only the first 8.7 seconds.

Edit Video (Beta)

Edit Video changes a clip from your prompt. Many edit models keep the length of the source, and the duration pill shows it locked. Flux Video Edit also keeps the source ratio and renders at 720p.

  • References. Several models take extra reference images. Load them in the reference slots and name them in the prompt with @ref1, @ref2.
  • Style Transfer. Turn it on to restyle the whole clip, then pick a style or load a Style Reference image. On models that support it, a Styled First Frame slot appears: load the first frame of your clip, already restyled, to guide the edit.
  • Guide Frames. Ray 3.2 takes up to 64 images anchored to timecodes in the source clip. Its Advanced Controls set how far the edit may move from the source, with Creativity from Adhere to Reimagine, and which signals to keep: pose, depth, normals, trajectory and face identity.
  • Audio. On HappyHorse, Auto lets the model decide whether to regenerate the sound, and Keep Original keeps the source audio.

Extend Video (Beta)

Extend Video continues a clip with the action you describe. The duration pill becomes Extra Duration: the length of the new part only.

  • Seedance can also add a lead-in. Set Extension Direction to Before Video 1 instead of After Video 1. Its length pill reads Extension, and Auto lets the model choose.
  • Grok Imagine Video takes clips of 2 to 15 seconds and adds 2 to 10 seconds.

Expand

Expand extends a clip to a new aspect ratio, generating the parts of the frame the source did not have. When you load a clip, a target ratio different from the source is picked for you. Change it with the ratio pill or with Target Ratio in the settings panel, which also previews the clip inside the new frame. The clip keeps its length.

Two models offer Expand: Ray 3.2 and LTX 2.3 Pro.
